Acupuncture as a definition, means: Acu-hand and puncture-to pierce. This means that I am using my hands (and needles) to pierce the skin. Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture uses the theory of Yin and Yang to provide balance to the body. This is done by placing the needles into meridians (pathways) studied for thousands of years, dating back to Ancient China. Most often, our central nervous system is over or understimulated and can cause pain/disease within the body. These acupuncture points trigger your body’s energy, or Qi, to bring balance back to your central nervous system.

Acupuncture needles do not need to be inserted deep to feel the therapeutic effects. Unlike dry needling, acupuncture needles only need minimal insertion to stimulate the meridian.
And do the needles hurt? In most cases, no, but if you are sensitive in certain spots, the needles might feel like a pinch or ache. That feeling only lasts about 15 seconds, however!

The simple answer? It depends! Acupuncture affects everyone differently! Some individuals with the same symptoms may need 1 visit to see benefits while others may need 2+. Factors that play a role in this determination is stress, diet, sleep, and activity levels. A common plan is to be treated once a week. Then as symptoms regress, a treatment every 2-4 weeks.
